Charity for homeless families takes on new name: Family Promise Cheyenne

CHEYENNE -- The Cheyenne Interfaith Hospitality Network will now be called Family Promise Cheyenne.
The organization shelters homeless families in local churches and in a duplex that it owns while working with them to become self-sufficient.
"We feel that (the new name) speaks more to the scope of work that we do," said Trish Peacock, the organization's executive director.
It's also easier to connect it with the national organization, which changed its name to Family Promise a few years ago.
Plus it's easier to remember and less of a tongue-twister to say.
The structure and mission will not change, nor will its interfaith status and work with local faith groups.
Although Family Promise Cheyenne is not exactly a religion-based group, "I would call the interfaith part of it the backbone of our organization," Peacock said.
A total of 14 faith groups, including Mt. Sinai Synagogue and the Islamic Center of Cheyenne, provide shelter, volunteers or both to support Family Promise Cheyenne.
The goal is to provide shelter and counseling to homeless families with children and to get them back on their feet and self-sufficient, Peacock said. In fact, like the new name states, it's the organization's promise.
That has become more challenging lately as more families have found themselves homeless during the recession, she said.
Many of the parents they help need to find less-skilled work, and those jobs have been harder to find lately.
"Just within the last month, we've been seeing those jobs available again," Peacock said.
Recently, the organization sheltered a mother and her 3-day-old baby.
It's an example of why the organization exists, she added: "To be able to put a 3-day-old baby (and the mother) into a faith community where they are not only safe, but have volunteers that rally around to make sure that that baby has all its needs taken care of."

Pffft.
I pay more in sales, income and employment taxes in a month than you will ever contribute to society.
Go build a business and hire a few employees then cry to me about "non-contributing."
Loser.
"Thanks for not supporting IHN / FPC, and not being a part of it. You just wouldn't get it."
You're welcome.
They're no different than COMEA or the rest of these joints. No problem is ever solved and it just gets larger.
Not worth the time or money. "

Actually, that's a noncontributing adult. You don't take, but you don't give either. And that, Mr Jerk, is what makes you a puny, inconsequential human being. Begone.
Thanks for not supporting IHN / FPC, and not being a part of it. You just wouldn't get it. "

Thank you for the post.
It validates all the suspicions many of us had about them.
Naturally at the time everyone jumped on us for being so "hateful."
Just goes to show that if you think with your emotions rather than your head you will be wrong every time.
To Miss Jack;
Of course you missed this part as you're barely literate:
"I have never garnered the most insensitive man (or person) on the planet comment." "

I've looked at your website:
http://www.cheyenneinterfaith.org/
I like what it says. Your program distinguishes itself in how it helps people learn to become self-sufficient instead of staying stuck in the same rut. This really appeals to me as a Conservative. I also like that it is an interfaith effort showing how we Americans can be different in our religious beliefs while working together for the common good. I really like the this is not just another government program.
I'd like to help. I'm starting with the check I'm sending you.
Please keep up the good work. I'm glad there are good people like working together helping to make Cheyenne a better place.
Thank you neighbors. "

Okay Jack, YOU'RE the most insensitive woman on the planet! From the perspective of this woman you certainly are not a man with your incessant gossipy, cowardly, slams. You fight like the stereotype of women not men. If you want to prove me wrong you can start by using your real name. Until then, you're just "Miss Jack" the biggest opposite of being a man that blights this blog. "

You're about worthless, unless it's about slamming other people you've never met. "

Is the glass allowed to be half full? Did it ever occur to you that maybe the mother had a job at some point and lost it due to the economy? You don't know this woman, you don't know her situation. It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt.
I would take that advice unless you truly have something constructive to say.
Onto the organization,
Good job, I hope this organization can help several families. Thank you for all that you do. "
